Aux Drive Belt Issues - 2.4JTD 10v

Morning all

The old girl has started eating aux drive belts; I had everything on that side done with the cam belt service in Dec 08, it then failed at the end of July and again last Thursday. Having got the car back on Friday I drove it no more than 25 miles of mixed driving without problem but on starting her to return there was a ticking noise on the drivers side towards the back of the engine (where all the belts are) which increases with engine speed... she made it home but I'm not keen to drive her further.

The specialist who has done all the work - who's great and I've no reason to doubt - reckons that the power steering pump and / or the alternator are on their way out which is putting extra load on the belt causing it to fail.

Does this sound likely and if so what sort of dosh should I be looking at? The car is a 1999 model with 122k on the clock.
