I've not driven a MiTo, but I HAVE driven a 147 GTA, and believe me, this 147 JTDm, was a LOT quicker than the GTA, and in the hands of an experienced 147 Driver ( your words
) like me, would blow any MiTo away, the torque is incredible ALL the way through the power band, and I often get to about 60, before changing into 3rd Gear, and then the power just keeps coming, and I can easily cruise down the Motorway doing about 90 MPH, using just about 2500 revs, in 6th gear of course, can't see ant MiTo managing that. Well I would be shocked if it could !!!!......
BTW.....I'm not knocking the MITo, before Tess appears from the rafters and smashes my head into the floorboards !!!!.....
Why does everybody compare engine torque values. Its a value on the engine, not on wheels. you need to go through the gearbox that multiplicates the torque that gets to the wheels.
Lets say we compare overtaking in 3rd gear where you would probably be at 3k rpm on mito and 2k rpm on JTDm
Mito 230Nm at 3k rpm = 230 Nm x 1,48 (3rd gear ratio) x 4,18 (final drive ratio) = 1423 NM on wheels
150bhp JTDm at 2k rpm = 305 Nm x 1,36 (3rd gear ratio) x 3,562 (final drive ratio) = 1478 NM
This means that in this simulated but possible in real life condition the Mito has only 3,7 percent less torque on wheels than JTDm.
I would love to compare with GTA but for the example above I don't know how much torque does it have at 3k rpm.... but at peak 300NM at 4800 rpm in 3rd gear it would give 1702 NM on the road while the poor 1,6TS 120 BHP would give 903 Nm on the wheels at 4200 rpm in 3rd.
