In this past week of glorious driving in my 156 V6 I've noticed a judder as I take of in 1st gear. The whole car shakes at biting point and then is fine as I accelerate off, if I give the car a few extra revs when taking off then the judder seems to 'speed up' but seems far less prominant, in fact it takes a bit of concentration to notice its still there when giving it a few more revs. I've also noticed that when fully warmed up (after about half hour driving) the clutch pedal seems a little stiffer to depress and there seems to be a 'click' in the pedal as its depressed. Now, the complete clutch was changed by the previous owner at 105000 miles (have receipts and I've have spoken to the garage to confirm full clutch change, he said brand new OEM part fitted part number VAL821249 Valeo? with 12mnth guarantee-expired) 1.5 yrs later and now 120000 miles it seems this clutch is on its way out.
There are no warning lights on the dash so I'm assuming fuel injection system is ok and the engine mount on top seems fairly new with no signs of perished rubber, however the car has extensive history though no mention of engine mount being changed. I can't think what else besides clutch this could be.
I'm hoping you guys could help me with the following questions I have:-
1. Have I diagnosed this correctly, could the clutch fail so soon?
2. What are the consequences of driving this machine with the judder/clutch, how will the clutch ultimately fail and what will happen?
3. Can anyone recommend a decent mechanic in the Reading area who won't charge the earth to replace the clutch, if its had it.
4. Any other ideas of what could be causing the judder
Many thanks for reading and responses
