1.6 TS 156 Cam Belt Slipped

The cam belt has slipped/jumped

The last owner said that when it happened there were no nasty noises, in fact no noise at all the engine just stopped

So my question is, will this have wrecked the engine or is it just a question of a new cam belt kit and getting everything back in time again and off we go?

Thanks for your help

It will have wrecked the top end, 4-16 bent valves, possibly cracked valve guides. The shock passes through the pistons to the bottom end as well, and as often as not when these engines suffer cambelt failure, and get just a top end repair they start knocking at the bottom end a few hundred to few thousand miles later, meaning another rebuild. When fixing the top end, it better to drop the sump and fit a new set of big end shells.

Other than that, recon/secondhand engine is the way forward.

Not too long ago my lower pulley slipped and on start up there was a rattling sound at lower revs. I had it checked out and had the pulley replaced along with belt and variator. WAD (Wolverhamton indie) told me that I was very lucky that now damage had occurred. Phew! The pulley slipped because the securing part broke off!
