The next problem... loud knocking, not long after cam belt change
It seems you sort one thing and another one quickly comes along... I finally sorted out the air filter - alfas must be the only car where standard tools for an air filter change include an angle grinder!
Anyway, latest problem... I got the cam belt and tensioners changed by a local independent last week. Sounded fine when I picked it up, but since then, a couple of times at start-up there was a loud rattle which then disappeared. It is now constantly present. It is rev related but present as you rev it. Putting air con and heated rear screen on doesn't seem to affect it.
I'm thinking auxiliary belt problem (tensioner or pulley), but even with the inner wing inspection cover pulley off I was struggling to pin point the source of the noise. Is it common for auxiliary belts to play up after a cam belt change or am I likely to be way off with my diagnosis. I'm obviously not driving it at the moment, and will take it back to the garage in the morning, but I'd like an idea of what it may be before I speak to them.
These things are sent and all that...
