I think I know the problem. There were spoked alloys available for the 156 and the GT, I assume they looked the same. The 156 had 40.5 offset and the GT ones had 35mm offset.
I'm not sure what you mean by "filler". You can not make a 35mm offset into a 40.5mm offset - the 35mm offset wheel is already set further out, the lower the number the further the wheel sticks out from the car. If for example you added 5mm wheel spacers to 40.5mm offset wheel you'd get the equivalent of 35.5mm offset, adding wheel spacers to the 35mm offset wheel would make the situation worse not better.
Could it be that they added the 'filler' to the 40.5mm offset wheel on the other side of the car but somehow the wheels got swapped over?
