My 2005 20v JTDm has decided to turn into a Granny car with all the performance of a hay wagon on wonky wheels.
I was 'giving it some beans' on a few nice twisties when accelerating out of a corner nothing happened. There was no turbo kicking in, and it pondered up the hill, foot flat to the floor, it accelerated from 50mph to errr 50mph over half a mile stretch. I had no engine management lights or anything. I stopped, turned off the engine, left it 10mins and started her up and still nothing (the 'check' came back 'ok'), pulling out at a junction is dangerous as it just doesn't move.
I limped along taking over a mile to go from 30 to 60, eventually I pulled up at a junc behind a smoky old Volvo. I think she got embarrassed by the fact that the Volvo and the campavan in front could out sprint her and hey presto she was back. I then had a hassle free 18miles the rest of the way home. Today she's back into pants mode.
I'm taking her into Interservice tomorrow but have to say I'm not looking forward to the journey as pulling onto busy round-abouts or out at junctions will be just a tad dangerous.
The car feels okay, other than there's no power, idle is smooth there's no funny noises or whining, no fluid loss and it does feel as if the turbo wants to kick-in, almost like a split second where she feels as though the urge is there, but then nothing. She still revs around to the red line - I did that on a small test run (less than 1m) today to see if the limiter kicked in earlier or anything like that.
Any ideas? Up to now (113k miles on a car that turned 4 a couple of weeks ago) she's been pretty much hassle free with no costs other than wear and tear.
