147 misfire

Hi guys

My '02 147 2.0 TS has been acting a bit weird for the last week. It started off smoking a bit under hard acceleration (brownish smoke - looks like un-burnt fuel). On Friday morning it was about -2 degrees (very cold for Johannesburg) and when i started it, it idled for a while and then almost stalled twice so i gave it a little bit of a rev and it corrected itself and i drove off like normal. Then on Sunday morning i started it and it sounded like it was only firing on 3 cylinders and one big cloud of smoke came out the back when i gave it a bit of a rev with the odd backfire every now and then and after leaving it to idle for a while it all came right and i drove it around a bit and it was perfect. This morning i started it, was very cold again and it was only firing on 3 cylinders, i tried leaving it to idle for a while hoping it would correct itself once it was warm, but it didnít, so i drove to work on 3 cylinders and only after about 10 km's it corrected itself and was back to normal.

Very weird stuff, im thinking its either spark plugs (only done 80000 km's), or bad fuel.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

sounds like one of the coil packs has gone, it's normally No1 as oil gets slopped about, drops down the spark plug hole and fries the coil pack.
The unburnt fuel smoke and back firing is because there is no ignition in that cylinder and it ignites in the exhaust.

Check if you got water in one of sparkplug holes, this happened all the time on my 146 1.8 TS.
