I have the same problem, which is why i searched and found this thread.
I am 6'3", i have very recently bought a 156 facelift sportswagon Ti with the sports leather seats (made by recaro i've seen stated?).
I don't sit the back up straight, but also don't like to lie down when i'm driving, just tilted back at a reasonable angle - and my hair (i've got very short hair) brushes on the roof lining.
I've had to remove the drivers grab handle straight away as my head kept hitting it when turning to check traffic at junctions (still looking for blanking plates).
I can't see the top half of the main dials (speedo and rev) when sitting ergonomically straight in the seat (not slouching or rounding shoulders, etc) due to the design being just right for roughly average height drivers. And forget about the head rest unless your a short @ss or have a broken neck. There are quite a lot of tall men out there, why not allow adjustment for them to fit?
I don't have a disproportionately tall upper body (need long or extra long jeans), but it was immediately obvious on the change from 155 to 156 that the cabin is drastically smaller all round, but in particular in height. It's getting uncomfortable to drive for long periods and i have a long commute, also i've now realised that in a crash i won't likely get whip lash, i'll more likely get a broken neck from the top of my head hitting the roof and tilting my head back as my body moves forward. That's not a risk i like.
Yup, as you'd expect, of course my seat rachet is adjusted fully down as low as it will go.
The alfa designers have really p***ed me off this time with the poor design regarding seating for taller folks, as it's a lovely car that i want to keep but its not much of an option unless i can lower the seat further. The only other options are to lie backwards at a 45 degree angle miles away from the steering wheel and gearstick (+ controls, etc) looking like a boy racer ned, or to hunch down and slouch until i'm crippled within a year or 2.
Chris155 - how the hell can you fit with a crash helmet on at 6'6" - you've got to be lying down almost on your back m8 surely? (don't call me Shirly!)
Maybe the sports seats fitment is slightly higher, i don't know? The leather is really firm, maybe the shape of the seats or the softness of the leather and fabric standard seats has more give and gives more space? I should try and compare if i get a chance.
Didn't notice during the test drive as just assumed i'd have to set up the seat properly for myself when i got it home. Gutted when i realised the extent of the problem.
Having a quick look at the clearance between the seat plastic bottom mouldings and the carpet i reckon if there was some way to adjust the mechanism or do some other fiddling with the mounts, i'd be lucky if there was 1-2cm of adjustment before i'd have to start cutting the bottom of the plastic mouldings, which i obviously really wouldn't want to do.
The seat mounts and rails mech themselves look very condensed height wise and the shell mount points are raised up from the floor by a good distance on box sections.
Anybody successfully lowered their drivers seat in any way? (mount or ratchet mech modding)
