Well since it can still pull full revs that kind of rules out the MAF... maybe. Get a diagnostic fault check done at a local independant Alfa specialist... The chances are that it will throw up an obvious fault.
Otherwise... Based on the limited info it sounds like any of these:

blockage/ leak in the air intake system...
Collapsed baffle in the exhaust system...
Possible collapse or break up in the cat itself...
Dead lambda sensor...
Fuel system blockage
Dirty injectors...
Faulty throttle body...
Sluggish fuel pump...
Loads of choices really, all will give poor performance, that's why it's important and by far cheaper to get the diagnostic done first. Then you will know where to start m8

Yessssss! Nero black, Black momo leather, sunroof and air con in a 156 2.0 twin spark..... = Heaven, pure heaven

Anyone can give advice on cars like "replace this part, replace that"... Start with the simplest solution and then work your way through it logically... Its a hell of a lot easier and cheaper!

A 1.6 isn't the quickest thing around, but it isn't slow.......trouble is your post is somewhat may struggle to pull from 30 in fourth gear - most 16v engines don't like to pull hard under 3000 revs......and a 156 isn't "revving it's nuts off" until its doing 6000+.

If it won't rev freely in the lower gears to 6000+ revs, then first check is probably the MAF - unplug it and if it doesn't make any difference, or improves how it runs, there's your culprit.....if not, then follow Ronny's list above....

Hi, best thing to do is get a diagnostic check done, otherwise you can spend money on parts and still not solve the problem.
Give Gus (alfa tuner) on here a ring or pm him, he's in St Helens and there's nothing he dosn't know about alfas, been there a couple of times for work and he's straight as a die, no bull, just top notch work

Link for Alfa tuner.......
