GT 3.2 V6 Unequal wear on each side os front discs
While underneath my GT today I noticed something that alarmed me. The inside face of both front discs were noticably rusty unlike the outside faces which are bright and shiny. The rust on the inner faces looks lightly polished but not shiny and I can only conclude that the inner pads are not applying any real pressure to the disc.
As I was busy derusting the floor pan (galvanised, is it, fek!) I didn't have time to remove the wheels to investigate further. I'd be grateful if someone could answer a couple of questions.
Does the front caliper need to be able to move laterally? I have always assumed not as there are two pots either side of these Brembo calipers but if it should slide and is seized that may explain the problem.
If it's just the inner pots seized is it possible to get and replace the seals? Strange that both sides exhibit the same problem but at least that explains why the car doesn't pull to one side under braking.
The car is 4.5 years old and has done 29K miles, the pads are about half worn but I'd replace them if I do any work on the brakes.
By the way, GT owners, check under your cars for surface rust. Remove the two longitudinal bracing bars at least to have a look as the box members they are bolted to are obscured and were rusting nicely on mine.
