JTDm - Turbo or Supercharger

Having just had my 57 plate GT, can anyone tell me about the engine. Having never owned a diesel before its all a bit new to me.

When I bought it I was told it had a low pressure turbo, but then I read it had a superchager (which I think is a belt driven turbo)

Am I right in thinking that a supercharger has no lag because it is always working?

Anyone with any knowledge of the JTDm engine who can enlighten me?

Got my Alfa Romeo Gt handbook out that comes with the car and under the section 'Fuel Supply' it lists the JTD 16v as " Common Rail Direct Injection with Supercharging"............. am I getting confused here, does this refer to the fuel ystem rather than the turbo?

In years gone by, all forced induction whether it was belt or exhaust gas powered was referred to as a supercharger. I think thats where the dodgy translation might stem from. But it is definitely a turbocharger, powered by the exhaust gasses passing through the turbine.

you have a garrett GT1749v turbo, not the biggest of turbos, but commonly fitted to most 1.9-2.0ltr turbo dieslels.
usually boost around 1500rpm, generally good for a 'reliable' 180bhp (you can get around 200bhp on some cars with this turbo - but close to the limit) but often a limiting factor (again depending on car and fuel system) when pushing over 190bhp on the alfas - the jtdm has the better fuelling and will do 200bhp.
