Brake Disc sizes for 156 1.9JTD Sport

Hi folks,

I shall be needing new discs and pads all round soon - can anyone enlighten me as to the details? The fronts are vented.

Am I right in thinking the fronts will be 284mm, 22mm thick and the rears will be 251, 10mm thick? Or am I being thick?!

Cheers all.

There are two types of rear 251mm and 276mm ... later cars (2000 on) usually have the slightly larger rear discs although there is a bit of a mixture.

According to Mintex catalogue you have the 276mm discs. Calipers should be smooth on larger disc cars whereas early smaller disc calipers have "ribs".

If you are only after standard discs, then buypartsby usually are the best prices around I know of, although double-check the parts as their site can be confusing.

I'm sure later cars with the smaller rear discs still had the later caliper with 147 type pads (as opposed to earlier 156 with 166 type pads), so caliper type isn't a reliable way of finding rear disc size.

Take a wheel off and measure them.

If it was a post 2001 SW, it would have 276 rears, but as Gazza said, the situation with saloons is a bit confusing.

If this is any use, I managed to read this in today's bright sunshine:

Front caliper: BOSCH FN54/22

Rear caliper: LUCAS 7795/1

Also, I'm 90% sure I have the larger size of rear disc, they are very close to the diameter of the fronts. I guess bearing in mind it is a Sport too (kind of like a Ti), it would probably have the larger discs?

Does that help?

You should have the 276mm rear discs Max. The fronts of course are 284mm as you say and are not up to the job really, not on this heavy-engined car anyway. I'd love to break the bank and put the Brembo 305mm kit on mine. So just damned expensive though
