Emergency repair for '04 GT power steering leak?
Just as I was parking up tonight after a 70 drive home from work, I heard a strange noise while turning the steering wheel to full lock. Spotted some fluid on the floor and found to my dismay that the power steering bottle was empty. Most of the fluid seemed to be pooled in the plastic engine undertray on the driver's side.
Anyway, having searched on this forum, the likely problem is a corroded alloy power steering pipe running under the engine at the front somewhere. The timing is horrendous as I'm due to drive to the Cotwolds on Monday on a holiday, hundreds of miles from where I live.
Assuming it is a corroded pipe, is it possible to get a garage to carry out an emergency repair - perhaps welding the area of leaking pipe as a temporary measure? I understand that certain bits of the pipe are under high pressure (85 bar) so a bit of bandage repair (e.g. for exhausts) won't be possible, eitherI guess?
Any advice gratefully received, as always!
