Diagnose my clutch problem

Have had my 05 jtd gt 40k miles for 4 days and the clutch is spoiling my fun. It is very heavy with a roughness at a point halfway when it is pressed in... got a friend with 159 diesel to compare his and he couldnt believe how rough it felt. So have to get fixed..could it be the slave cylinder or clutch?should i change both. The list of things to do increases as am already getting timing belts, waterpump, pads all round, discs to rear and have just put on a new set of tyres...all in 4 days. Just hope wife never finds out about this forum!

I would go for the master cylinder, I've seen a few of them snap the spring inside which gives them a really notchy feel.
