Hi, Im looking to buy a 147 for my fiance, she always wanted one and now I have the money Im on the look out.
What should I be looking for on a test drive?
Ive been to see one at the weekend, a 1.6 Lusso with 90K on for £1500, lookes great in the light blue metalic, but it has a nice dent in the tailgate, which cant be knocked out. So it would need a new tailgate. The car has Leather, Electronic climate, cd, etc. I didnt get chance to start it or even get inside, but if the engine sounds good and drives ok, does this sound reasonable?
Should I be buying something with less miles?
Im used to Vauxhalls that go for 150,000-200,000miles before needing rebuilds, etc as long as cared for. Is this the same case with the T.spark engines?
I am also thinking about getting a 2.0 147 for myself soon after if the ride impresses me.
I went to a AO meet in the west mids, with the intention of looking for a 156 V6 a while ago, but ran out of money with a poor job situation. When looking round the nice alfas, I remember someone saying you should look out for sounds from the variator, but what sounds should I be looking out for? How should the engine behave through out the rev range?
