Throttle Potentiometer fault - 156 2.4JTD
Hi there. I'm new to the AO forum, so be gentle with me please! (Which is why I posted this in the GTV Lounge on my first attempt - Doh!) Anyway, lets try amongst the 156 fraternity now.........
Just picking up on the many throttle sensor potentiometer problems that I've seen....my 156 2.4JTD recently developed an intermittent fault. The EM light comes on and I need to push the trottle half way down to get revs (getting revs brings the EM light on). Then while driving, going over any bumps or potholes in the road seems to jolt it back into action - EM light goes out and the car accelerates!!
This implies to me that the pot isn't shot (what's a shot pot not? Do I sound like Michael Barrymore?). So now, I drive along either looking for bumps to fix the problem and drive normally, or avoiding bumps to try and keep it running OK.
I feel the urge to take the pot or a connector apart and put it back together again rather than shell out for a new one, as it seems like there's something loose.
My question is - where is it on my vehicle and is tampering with it advisable?
