Alfa 147 issues - squeeks and gears
I've had my 147 for 2 weeks (06 plate 1.9 JTDm TI) and already it has been back at the garage three times. The first time was for new gas for the A/C which - since they changed it has actually made the a/c worse! The two bigger issues I could use some advice with are -
1. Squeeking. I don't mean the ocassional squeek either. Seems to come on after about 30 miles of driving and it sounds like someone is turning a very "squeeky wheel" round and round somewhere near the back axle. This first started after I took the car in to get the front p/side shock looked at because it was making a squeek when compressed (small pothole or going over speed bump type of thing). The squeeking from the rear was so bad first time I actually got out to check one of the rear wheels wasn't falling off! Oddly it then went away for a whole day but came back yesterday again after about 30 miles of driving. I then parked it for an hour and started off again with no squeek at all. It is loud - louder than (say) intermittent rattles in other cars I've had - so loud and annoying you feel like just getting out and walking just to make it stop!
2. Clutch. I don't know if this is in any way related, but the clutch more or less gave up on me last night - fortunately I was about 400 yards from the garage I bought it from so I left it there. They tell me today that it needs a new slave cylinder.
Does anyone know if these two could be related or, more to the point, what might be causing the squeeking if they aren't? I don't want to pick up the car tomorrow if the squeeking hasn't been attended to!
