156 sportwagon 1.8 losing power.
Will try my best to write up the problem.
When i am doing between 30 - 45 MPH my car for no reason wat so ever sort of cuts out, the engine is still running, but the car seems like it been turned off, and for the use of a better word kagaroos 3 or 4 times then carrys on, its if your jump starting a car.
There is no patten to this jumping, and it has done it once or twice at higher speeds (but no were near as bad). The lights and all the electrics still run during this jumping.
I only bought the car a few days ago. It seem to run fine when i bought. I took here for a 120 mile trip down the motorway with no problems. I came of the motorway to some traffic lights, i pulled off at the lights went in to second gear, and had a huuuuuuuuuuuge cloud of white smoke...
The car seemed to take a hell of a long time to build up revs and power when starting off, and stalled a few time when starting her up cold. Once i was past 3rd gear the lack of power seem to pass.
So... i took her to have a service, got all the plugs changed, new oil filter, new oil. Didnt get the air filter changed due to the airfilter house being in a bad way. The air filter is about 18 months old. After the service i had a lot more power from starting off, but still not 100% i feel and i am still getting the jumping effect. Still get a small amount of white smoke sometimes but have been told this is from the cat burning off water.
Had a new head gasket timing belt etc 5 months ago, and have been told the head gasket is fine.
If any one could shine some light on the problem it would be great.
Sorry forgot to say its 1.8 TS, 2000 model, estate.
