This is an update of my previous mail in respect of the persistent "belt" squeak I have on my GT (Cloverleaf, 2.0 jts, 2008). It will be going into Alfa for the 9th time tomorrow for the same issue - a belt squeak upon ignition (and for approx 4/5 minutes thereafter), it also makes a whistling noise when accelerating (I would assume that this is the belt slipping). As I have previously noted Alfa has changed all of the belts, auxiliary belts, tensioners, etc and the main front pulley, but without joy (or to be more precise with increasing pain, for me). The typical way this plays out is - they have it for a week, change this, that and the other and give it back to me, the car is then fine for a few weeks (probably a 300-400 miles) and then the squeak comes back gradually.
I would be grateful for any advice anyone could offer - and particularly if it is not a belt issue (I don't see how it can be, given that they have changed everything numerous times) what would then be the most logical source of the problem?
