I agree with the others, it is most probably the variator. How much KMs has your car covered? and how long does the noise last, after starting the engine?
If it has low kms, it might have been run with low oil pressure sometime? that is known to damage the variator..

if it's still under warranty, take it to UCIM. If not, I would suggest to go there and ask them / complain about it. It should not fail in such a short time..

Thanks for your reply. My alfa is a 2001 model with 17000m. The noise last for only a few sec.By now the car warranty has expired. Do you think they should repair it just the same?
