motor control system failure - sorted!!??
Hi to all,
Just thought I would share this with you in the hope it may help someone else with the dreaded MCSF.
I have a 2.4jtd on a 52 and ever since I bought her 3 yrs ago I have had the MCSF on and off when pushing it. A real pain as the 2.4 does like to go.
Read many threads, but nothing seemed to be conclusive.
Did some thinking about possible causes and wondered if the air filter could be linked. Even a new filter could be a prob if not allowing enough through (possible design flaw?) and creating a rich mixture when accellerating hard. Anyway to cut a long story short, I took out my air filter, removed half of the filter paper and replaced it with some filter material with a lower resistance to airflow. Bit of a bodge job, but it would test a theory.
The result was amazing. I did this 5 weeks ago and I know have an Alfa I can rev as much as I like and not have to worry about it beeping or losing power on me.
This is the only thing I have changed and if it's the same after 8 weeks I will remove the alfa filter unit and fit a K+N or similar.
Has anyone else had fitted a different air filter and still experienced the dreaded MCSF I wonder. Would be interested to hear if so.
