Head Unit flashing 'MUTE' - no sounds now!

Yesterday the standard head unit in my 99S 1.8TS 156 decided to go into 'MUTE' mode and I can't find a way of recovering it. Anyone had this problem? I can't find a mute button on the facia and there doesn't appear to be anything about it in the instruction manuals.

Any ideas?

It's also got an Alpine 6-stack CD changer in the boot, if that makes any difference.

You can try disconnnecting its power supply for some minutes, or more easily remove the appopriate fuse for a while, to reset it.
