Engine 156/6/24

After looking at a few 156/6/24 engine bays, I have noticed that some cars engines were cleaner than others - I mean that some had really shiny tubes (don't know their technical name) between the cylinder heads, and some were not quite so shiny and even had a few spots of corrosion.

Has any other owners experienced this? If so, what is the easiest cure?

Please settle my intrigue....

I find that if you keep the bonnet up when you're done driving for a day really keeps the engine bay in good shape (assuming that you have a closed parking space). This allows heat to escape quickly before damaging the plastics and wiring. Also avoid driving over puddles that could splash water into the engine bay.
