V6 Cold start tapping noise....
For the past week, when starting the car from cold, there is a noticeable tappet type noise coming from the engine.
This typically last for 15 to 30 seconds, is in time with engine revs and once it disappears, won't be heard again until the next cold start. Although, even then, it doesn't happen with every cold start!
It's difficult to pinpoint where the noise is coming from, mainly due to it lasting just for a few seconds, but with my untrained ear, it seems to be coming from an area around the left hand side of the plenum / timing belt cover (basically, the top left hand side of the engine) but I can't really isolate it any better at the moment.
No other symptoms, infact in the year that I've had the car, she just seems to get better and better... Pulls like an express train!
She's coming up for a service, not a big one; cam belt, water pump, etc were all done just before I purchased the car.
I've done just over 4000 miles since then.
It's been suggested that it sounds similar to a sticking hydraulic lifter and probably just needs a bit of a 'ragging'!
Thought I'd get your opinions first.
