hmmm...seems like every once in a while someone still remembered there is a Q-System in the 156 line up, eh? There was a discussion on this some time back but I can't seem to find it now.
Well, my 156 is a 2.6V6 Q-System. It was also called Sportomatic in some literature. Basically it is a JAPANESE gearbox, heheheh, got your attention? It's made by Aisin, which supplies to Toyota. So you can say it is a close cousin to a Toyota gearbox, man those gearboxes lasts and lasts and last....
It's a thoroughly modern gearbox,(not a o5h1tty old auto system) electronic everything, Ice/Sport/City mode, manual override via H-pattern, etc, etc, it doesn't even let u spin a wheel on take off with all that torque & bhp to protect the gearbox and drivetrain.
Its manual selection function is more intuitive than Tiptronic, instead of pushing up for upshift, down for downshift(or is it the other way around?? See my point!) you just shift it like you would a manual. And the gear is held in your selected ratio regardless what u do, stopped in 4th and it shall take off from 4th, stick it into 1st at 200kmh and when you slow down enuff to safely engage 1st without blowing an engine, it WILL, direct into 1st, without running thru 3rd or 2nd. Tiptronic's computer overrides your decision, not Q-system.
There are plenty of 164 3.0V6 Auto owners, I don't hear them complaining about an automatic gearbox?
Hey, if it's not your cup of tea, go talk about GTAs, hehehehe.
