Bleeping Alarm

As a relatively new Alfa owner, I'm getting to grips with all those little bits and pieces that other owners seem to be dealing with! But I need a bit of advice about the alarm on my 2001 156 2.0TS Sportwagon. When I lock the car with the remote, it beeps once and after a few moments the dash light starts to flash regularly, but also after about 5 secs the alarm beeps a second time. The handbook says it means it's done a self test on the system and there's a fault. In all other ways the alarm seems ok, in fact I set it off the other day by mistake and it worked perfectly well.
Also I can't lock off the rear electric windows from the driver's door control, is that likely to be the swtich?
Thanks for all the other threads, I find them incredibly useful

Re: Bleeping Alarm

My Sportwagon also did the same thing but as I did not have a handbook at the time I did not think anything of it as I had also managed to set the alarm off by mistake.

I recently had to change the radiator (or what was left of it) and I found a disconnected cable leading to a microswitch next to the bonnet catch. When I put the new rad in I connected the cable, now the alarm only beeps once.

Presumably the microswitch triggers the alarm if the bonnet is foced open / tampered with.

If you look through the grill you may see the cable dangling down in front of the rad(s).

Hope this helps

Re: Bleeping Alarm

The dash LED should flash between 1-10 times when it beeps a second time depending on what the error is. the manual has a list of what the flashes mean. this shouls identify which door/boot/bonnet is not closed properly.

Re: Bleeping Alarm

The later second bleep is to tell you something is not shut properly. Open the bonnet and SLAM it shut. You don't want that opening on you thats for sure.
