Re: Brakes or Bearing ????

I concur... Brakes are the first thing to check and clean up.
Check/ remove and/or replace pads and apply copperslip to the outer edges and back plate of the pad. Check that the pistin is going back ok (open the brake fluid res cap to help). Clean the caliper down thoroughly does it move freely? Also check the back of the disk (the inner side that you don't see). Is it grooved/scored/ lipped? If so, then its time for a replacement too.
I would also check the stone guard to see if it is touching the disc...

Start with copperslip first m8... its cheaper

I've never known a bearing to squeel

Yessssss! Nero black, Black momo leather, sunroof and air con in a 156 2.0 twin spark..... = Heaven, pure heaven

Anyone can give advice on cars like "replace this part, replace that"... Start with the simplest solution and then work your way through it logically... Its a hell of a lot easier and cheaper!

Re: Brakes or Bearing ????

do the discs ahve a 'lip' on them at their edges, then mostly thats the cause of the squeek.

next time it happens LIGHTLY press the brak pedla & see if it goes away, if it does it definietly brake/disc/pad related.

Re: Brakes or Bearing ????

Sometimes the metal splash guards behind the disc just rub the disc and can cause a squeaky metal noise. But its more likely to be constant.

Re: Brakes or Bearing ????

This phenomenom happens when the caliper slide pins dry out and te caliper starts to vibrate as the pads drag on the disc, you just need to remove the caliper, clean and lubricate the slide pins and rebuild it.

Otherwise youhave worn a pad down to the metal, in which case you need to replace the discs and pads, front or rears as pairs.
