Please Help 147 Dillema

my 147 is running really rough, i checked the plugs and found lots of carbon build up but the plugs in the cylinder nearest the gear box had oil on them. I could smell burning oil and i could see smoke out of that cylinder, but the rest were dry and smoke free. The car idles rough with some smoke but gets very bad when reved. Can anybody tell me where this oil is getting in from. Whats most likely inlet gasket, head gasket or piston ring? Also i am thinking of taking the repair on myself please advise how difficult a head gasket is on these and would i need any specialist tools? Any advice would be highly appreciated..
