Variable Build quality?

I've taken my GTA in for some TLC, I had an extremely severe rattle coming from the passenger seat from new, it seems that one of the metal thingies inside was loose, so they have to uncover the seat and give it to some fancy upholstery's all covered by warranty so no stress there...

What puzzles me though, is that they gave me a 147 JTD 16v as a loaner, and that this car seems much more solid than my GTA...the JTD has 12000 km but there isn't even the faintest squeak or rattle, and it just seems much better built overall... My car has all sort of little parasite noises at only 2800 kms, I brushed it off as I understood that it's common with Alfas, but that loaner car, which gets gratuitous thrashings by everyone ( ) is solid as a rock...

Also, on my car I have different assembly problems, the headliner cloth is too short and it comes out at the location where the window airbag starts, also the passenger door console which houses the window switch is not inserted properly...I get all sorts of squeaks, but that might be due to the fact that my car has leather and the oil-burner doesn't

Anyways, down to my question : My car was built on the first week of september, I understand that the factory closes for the entire month of August, so could it be that the employees were depressed about going back to work and they fluffed it, or could it be that the Alfa dealer continuously fixes the JTD to get rid of any niggles? Has anyone on here a totally, absolutely rattle free 147? If so, then mine is not done right?

FYI, the loaner rides on 16 inch alloys, but I don't think it would make that much of a difference, I am litteraly taking jumps with the diesel and there is no noise at all except my passengers heads banging on the ceiling laughing

Any thoughts?

Oh, by the way, the diesel is nice, lots of torque...that's about it, give me back my GTA rant

Manu, maybe its something to do with the fact that the GTA has rock hard suspension, this would make any "dubious build quality" really stand out?
Also, my GTA had a few minor creaks and rattles when new, but they`ve all but disappeared now.

Dunno , but I am in the creaky GTA club too, not got around to taking it to the dealer yet i'll do a coupel of thousand miles see what else appears then go in, it is suprising though considering my 2002 Punto Sporting has done 20k on lower suspension through harsh country lanes and not got a single rattle or squeak.

Maybe as previously suggested it is down to the firmer suspension on the GTA. I've had a bog standard 1.6 Lusso on 15" wheels for a month and 1000 miles now and its exceeded my expectations in terms of build quality. Okay, the suspension creaks on cold mornings when going over speeds bumps, but I haven't had a peep out of the interior - even hitting nasty potholes just gives a nice rubbery thud from the suspension and no creaks. Where the rear bumper meets the body work in the hatch the fits is a bit rubbish with some gaps, but apart from that mine seems to be pretty solid.

I get a lot of squeaks from the leather rear seat rubbing against the door cards. But overall its not too bad for 40,000kms.

I'm sure the GTA's harder suspension and 45 profile doesn't help with creakes and rattles.

My car has 16" wheels and I've never thought about curing any rattles or creakes so it must be much less than yours.

my 5dr Selespeed had done nearly 22,000 miles in just under 2 years and i've been really chuffed with the build quality so far. Then again i had an Escort previous. anyway, i get the odd rattle, one of them i do want to get sorted but i'll leave it until the service. I did have the rattle in the passenger seat (sport momo leather), which never bothered me, until frustration with traffic got the better of me and i gave the seat a good thmup, not heard a thing from it since!!

My 147 was one of the September cars, and it's as solid as solid gets. AND it runs on 17" wheels, not the softer 16" ones. So if build quality is variable, I've got one of the luckier ones.
