Re: Why have I perservered so long with an Alfa ??
I've owned my Alfa for three months now and it's wierd.
Every time I drive it I expect it to fail and break down, but so far it hasn't.
It's had lots of niggles, but I've already thrown lots of money at it to correct them, but that's because my two previous cars were brand new and I expect the same from my three year old Alfa. I feel like I'm restoring it to new condition, even if things don't need doing.
I love the feeling I get when driving the Alfa, I like washing her weekly and I turn around and look at her every time I park up and walk away, this in itself is satisfying ownership, isn't it?
I've wanted to buy an Alfa for years but have always listened to the knockers and detractors and never had the balls to do it for fear of breaking down and the expenditure involved in running one, but I'm glad I have, even if I only own one for a year, I've had one.
My work colleagues always mock and hand me AA and RAC leaflets but they also always ask me questions about how it drives, is it reliable and does it drive as nice as it looks, etc.
The previous owner was pretty fastidious also, he had any niggles ironed out, recalls and warranty work was undertaken and the car came with full Alfa Specialist History, other than the dreaded unstoppable stone chips there wasn't a mark on her, both in and out.
I've got a major service booked in two weeks, cam belt, tensioners, idlers, water pump, etc, etc, and a huge bill but I'm not complaining, just enjoying..................................
