156 Alarm disabled by opening doors from inside?

Can anyone tell me if this is the norm on my 156, (2001).
If I sit in the car whilst it is locked and pull on any one of the inside door handles, the car will unlock (all doors) through the central locking.
Now it would appear that this also deactivates the alarm as well.
So my concern is: if a scum-bag smashes the window, the alarm goes off (hopefully detected by the ultrasonic sensors) but as soon as he pulls on one of the inside handles, the alarm will switch off. Probably no more than one second of alarm siren....
Surely this can't be right?

To check - have you locked the doors when you got in using the deadlock button? (does the 156 have this feature?)

then opened the door with the handle without unlocking first?

I ask because I have twice had problems with the 166 alarm not setting when I have done this sequence (I realised on the 2nd time what triggered it)

or have you sat in the car & locked it with the remote & then opened the door?

Sat in the car this evening, armed it, let the ultrasonics set it off, opened the doors but alarm kept on going off.
Is yours the alarm that came in the car or was it installed after?
