Longstory short, I've got a 2001 (Y) reg 156 2lt Selespeed top of the range with sports kit (though no 3rd party mods), tidy motor etc.
Over a substantial time period (year(ish)) i've had intermitant problems with the selespeed system (see a previous post here
of an indepth desc. of the issues), however it's about gears not being selected, wrong gears showing on dash to what is physically seleted etc...
Anyway, after advice from the forum I cleaned contacts and changed the battery for a new one, also topped up the oils (as they were very low) and for the first week or so the problem I had with the gears went away, all was running happy, and so it had been for the odd week until it started coming back in, getting worse over every week.
Took it to a mechanic and asked them to hook the car up to their diagnostics system and they reported these three error codes:
P0720 - Input shaft speed sensor.
P1742 - Converter lockup solanoide valve.
P0725 - Engine speed signal not plausable.
Could anyone put in laymans terms what this actually means? Does it bare relevance to the problems I've had with the gears? What could I do to possibly fix it? etc...
The cars probably only worth £2500 maximum so if we're talking expensive bills for fixing wondering if it would be worth it.
Any help etc would be much appreciated. Am getting fustrated with the car now, as I live in a city 1st and 2nd gear (which has the problems) is usually all I use! arrgghh...
Thanks chaps (and chapets),
