Regarding the Alfa engines, I'll wait for someone to post an information.
There are engines (Porsche, others?) that do control petrol detonation and adjust ignition accordingly.
Some people erroneously believe that 98RON increases power, when compared to 95 and that is not (straight forward) true.
Basically 98 petrol resists better to detonation than 95.
You do need an engine corectly set to take full advantage of 98RON.
If your engine is set to 95, you will not benefit using 98.
On the other hand if the engine is set to 98, you CANNOT use 95.
Well, this is at least some of the info I remember about this.
The question remains, do Alfa engines change ignition timing according to petrol used?
Sometimes the alphabet starts with Z...
