My 156 is 1.8 ts R-reg fitted with Firestone Firehawk 700 185/65 r 15 as standard. I was happy with the performance.
I have upgraded the standard wheels to 15" 8 hole Alloys fitted with Pirelli P6000 205/50 Tyres
possibly fitted to V6.
Wheels are fine but the tyres don`t inspire the confidence the firestones did.
I will double check the tyre pressures before considering replacing the Pirellis with the Firestones.
My question is for owners of 1.8 TS with standard suspension and 8 hole Alloy wheels from 1997-2000.
What tyres came with your car and when replacing them what was fitted and what difference to the handling or grip in wet or dry ?
I have a 1.8TS with sports suspension. I had Firestones from new and changed the front for Dunlop SP9000s that are quieter but I am not convinced their wet grip is as good. I have no evidence to back this up other than gut feeling. I shall probably go for Goodyear Eagle F1s next time.
I've got Conti SportContacts on my 1.8 ( with Eibach springs and Koni adjustable shocks). I got the tyres on some wheels(16" Selespeeds) I bought and was very pleased with the grip/life/noise balance. The front two lasted about 20k miles. The wear is even across the tread, which seems to be a problem for some.
Currently, I'm using Continental Sport Contact 2 tyres. Really good, didn't screech like what my old P6000 Energy tyres used to, very good grip in dry and wet, have yet to aquaplane. And its easy to maintain, cause the grooves are so big that pebbles don't get lodged into the grooves, so I don't need to spend time every week to dig those little annoying stones out.
