Thanks for all the advice guys, & Lee I am sure I have met you at a Scoob meet b4 - you had the Alfa at the Midlands Big One?
Anyway, yes it is a Veloce so sits lower anyway. To be honest maybe I am being too critical, as my previous car was so well set up. I thought maybe by just changing the Springs Lee it would firm things up at the front? I too made the switch for economy reasons as I do loads of miles. Maybe I should stop trying to drive it like the Scoob!
Needless to say the car has been in the garage all day for its replacement clutch. Came to pick it up at 4.30pm to be informed of a "technical" problem.......they ordered the wrong kit - so another day with the loan car!
Here is a brief summary of the cars history.
Signed for the car 28th August - 10k on clock - as new - looked stunning. On final inspection b4 I drove away I noticed someone had left a nice crease down 1 side whilst on the forecourt. Ok, things happen, so I agreed to them sorting out this later in the bodyshop, as the damage was minor.
2 miles down the road - "return to dealer-Engine management Fault" or similar appeared on dash.
This took 2 days of backwards and forwards to dealer until after a lot of rubbish about resetting systems from Italian codes - to ah, its a split in the hose to the turbo. Now I am not a mechanic, but should you really stick another bit of hose over the original for the mend?
Now the clutch - it was always biting on the high side and also would get stiffer and stiffer as the day went on (I often spend a full day on the road) and then would feel notchy during the last part of the travel to the floor.(no lewd comments please!) So back it went - a technician inspected it and I was booked in for the problem to be rectified the following week. 4.30pm on the day and I went to collect, only to be asked "so whats wrong with your clutch sir?" After much waving of arms and loud voice it was agreed I would bring it back the following week for a further go. Again a technician agreed there was a problem and the car was left for a further day. Pick up time came "yes there is a problem, you need a clutch kit!" So day 3 for the problem was today - left car all day....4.30pm, pick up - "Oh sorry looks like we have ordered the wrong part, can we keep it another day?"
So, all the above combined with a sticking passenger handle knob, annoying rattles from the internal rear lights, scraping the tarmac over bumps, a radio manual in French and the fact when the log book came it appears I was lied to by the dealer about the previous owner makes me very anti Alfa right now.
I am considering just taking it back and taking the money back minus their profit etc etc and calling it a day!
Prestige car? an expensive Fiat more like!
