Re: Power Steering Pump change.
With regards to changing the power steering fluid, is this normal? I have a 2001 147 and the steering is quiet in operation, but putting a screwdriver to it at idle (to amplify the noise) and outting an ear to it other end, it sounds a bit rattly, an intermittant clunky sound. No whining at all however.
Would new fluid quieten this?
Someone at halfords today reckoned the fliud should last the life of the car and not to bother.
The fluid is thin, but he reckoned its thin anyway.
It has a hint of brown however.
I just had a cambelt change, inc rollers, balance belt, variator and water pump as it was so noisy!!!
Much quieter now but still an annoying rattle curiously more apparent inside with the doors closed.
The fluid level is max and ive never topped up in the two years Ive had it.
Would replacing 8 year old power steering fluid be a good step to take?
