Oil leak - front of engine
Late last year the engine (1.6Twinspark) was rebuilt as the water pump had failed (supplying dealer hadn't replaced it when the cambelt was changed!).
Since then the oil consumption has been on the high side of normal (or more accurately, 'Alfa normal'), but recently was getting worse.
First check showed a leak from the cam cover gasket, as the dealer had:
a) Slathered so much silicone sealant on the underside of the gasket the sealing grooves were full of the stuff;
b) Two of the cover's retaining bolts (front left and the one immediately above, as viewed from the front of the car) weren't fitted properly. One was only finger-tight and the other had been put in at an angle so wasn't even screwed into the head...).
These were put right, the area cleaned and the car checked over the next few weeks.
Oil still needed topping-up, but at a lower rate and the gasket is now holding, but another leak has become evident.
The oil pipes to/from the filter mount are covered, plus the area across the head under the exhaust manifold and down the front of the block/sump.
Without taking the manifold etc. off to check further, my guess is it may be the oil pipe banjo on the front of the block that hasn't been tightened properly.
Any particularly well-known leaks in this area?
