Some things to check that you might have forgotten about.

check insurance rates for 1.8 to 2.0.

1.8 engine simpler ie no balancer shafts or belts to change or go wrong, so lighter .

DO get a 1.8 with air con. The non air con system is not up to cooling you ( it didn`t this summer and yes i own a 1.8 with out A/C ).

Alloy wheels can easliy got from Ebay as owners sell them when up grading .

If your paying for your own fuel the 1.8 has similar consumption to the 1.6.
I get about 35mpg average ( clear A3 driving ie 80mph daily ).
I carn`t see the 2.0 coming close.

well thanx guys, but u have left me as confused as ever.

I think i'll look for the best car i can find and not bother so much with the 1.8/2.0 thing.

although i have to say the couple of 1.8's i drove were alot rougher than that nice 2.0 i had for a while.

Also there are aload of 156's about rite now so im looking forward to hunting around. and as for red, it seems like 2 out of 3 are red so not much choice there!

I think veloce wheels will have to wait for now, most of the cars either have the nasty nasty hubs, or the alloys with a lots of holes (which are ok)
