Had a quick word with euan as I was ordering some stuff from him and made an enquiry about your problem , hope you don,t mind, I explained that it seems your problem is mechanical and as it was, he didn,t want to spend too much time fiddling with a diagnostic that he knew nothing about and wasting you time.
Fair enough the diag is showing faults but its related to clutch symptons not hydraulic and he wasn,t seeing that.Good for honesty in his defence , but anything sele he usually sends it to a maserati pal in EDINBURGH and he is well able and gets no comeback.
Thats cool Pat, Euan hadn't great experience with the Selespeed but as you say he is as honest as th eday is long, and for anything else Alfa-related he's great.
Back to my car saga - wait for this one -
My Clutch still has not been replaced. The techie in westerns said this when I phoned yesterday morning -"Yeah mate, we haven't done it as I went to start the car over the weekend to move it, and it sounded like a very loud rattle from the bottom end.... I turned it straight off...." I mean come on it hasn't been anywhere!!!
"....it definately wasn't there when you brought it in, as I took it out for a test drive and it was fine then..." "the oil was a bit low but was still above the min mark..."
I'm still recovering from the shock. How the hell did this happen? I phoned him back this morning to ask if it could be the variator worn, his answer was.."no, the variator noise would go away after a few seconds, it could just be the shells (on the big end), we could take off the sump and we'll check it out, you may have got away with it" -
Now I had my engine let go in my Fiat coop 20vt years ago, I know what it sounds like and there is NO WAY i would have missed a sound as loud and pronounced as that....
I told them to replace the clutch anyway as i'm in all honesty hoping they have made a mistake....I should have the verdict in the morning...(when they have inspected the engine)
The car had a great service history, all the way through from new,
am I incredibly unlucky or is this a mis-diagnosis? (i'm praying it is the latter, this car wouldn't be worth fixing (as in a rebuild) for the price I paid for it (£1500)
