I'm new here, and new to Alfa, so please go easy on me
I currently drive a Mini Cooper (classic, not the Bini) and I'm looking for a "propper" daily driver, something more of a "family car", so I the mini can get some needed TLC
I am looking at 156s, and I like the 2.4 JTD as I assume it's a strong engine, yet grunty (love torquy engines) and will hopefully give me a fairly reliable car.
I'm after some advice.
Today I've been looking at this car: Auto Trader UK - ALFA ROMEO 156 2.4 JTD Lusso
It's a 2001 Lusso. Good colour and trim. The car has the some scruffs and scars as you would expect from its age and mileage. The biggest is a small crack in the front bumper. Nothing I'm too worried about tbh.
The thing that slightly concerns me is that it only had 1 cambelt change (around 65-70k miles IIRC), which means it's probably due one.
The engine seemed to sound ok and drive was good, but I'm not mechanical minded at all, so don't really know.
The vendor has just renewed its MOT (no advisories). For that they had to replace one front tyre, which means the cars has one good tyre (Continental) and one almost bolt tyre (cheapo-never-heard-of-brand), which will obviously need replacing soon. The rear tyres seemed average but unknown brand too.
The vendor was willing to knock £100 of the price, OR put 3 months warranty on.
Does this seem like a reasonable price? Is it worth getting an RAC inspection (or similar? never used any of those services), or should I just go for the 3 months warranty?
Should the fact that the cambelts are due worry me as long as I get them done soonish?
A lot questions, sorry ...
Any tips/recommendations very much appreciated
