Faulty Temperature Sensor??
I just bought a 156 2.4 JTD and the temperature was showing below 70 degrees, so reading this forum, I decided to change the thermostat!
The new one came with the temperature sensor fitted however when I switched on the ignition, the temp immediately shot up to maximum!! The connection cannot go on the wrong way, so rather than fit the old thermostat again, I unscrewed the old sensor and fitted it to the new thermostat! Success, the temp now sits about 85 degrees!
I returned the sender unit to the supplier and he got another sent up from his supplier and I fitted it this afternoon. All seemed well and I went out for a drive and the temperature started to rise up to 90 degrees but then the needle started jumping from 90 to max and back down again!! The needle finally came to rest, 'off' the top of the gauge!!
I am assuming that both new sender units are from a faulty batch as there is no way that that they can be connected the wrong way??? Tell me if I am wrong.
Is there a way to test the sender units or do I just return it again?
First job in the morning is to refit the old sender unit!!! I am getting good at removing the battery now!
