yep, Possibly - its a simple 2 hour job to replace them, and there is a thread somewhere on here with instructions. I think the title was about discs on a 147, and someone asked about replacing 156 front discs. I did mine and its cured similar symptoms.
Also though could very likley be worn lower arm bushes, upper wishbone bushes or another suspension componant from what you've said. At 47K the discs are prob due for replacement any way. Check their thickness with a micrometer, and if near the min may as well change them and see if it cures it. If not, the your gonna have to do some suspension wiggling to see if there is excessive play anywhere. Does it get worse as the brakes heat up? If so thats prob discs
