Re: I Drove 5 miles without timing belt attached!
Had the belt done... all looks good... found another problem though. I didnt realise but the fan isn't cutting in? I've only had the car less than a week so today is the first time i've let the engine run in idle and i noticed as i was observing the new aux belt the fan wasnt cutting in? quickly looked at the temp gauge and saw it up at 90º ! so cut the engine and now scratching my head. Have to find the fuse box i think. Is this a common glitch that someone can enlighten me with? Oh and before anyone says 90º is about normal i have to mention that the gauge bearly goes over 50º when i'm driving... it looks to me a tad dodgy.
Your thermostat is stuck open, so you need a new one. The fan shouldn't come on until it gets just over 90 degrees by the gauge. See below what Smaky said, he is right.
90'c IS NORMAL, if the car is running at 50 when your driving then the thermostat is stuck open, to check the fan disconnect the temp sensor plug (grey) on the thermostat housing whilst the ignition is at MAR. If the fan spins up then there is no problem with the fan system. Your doing more damage to the engine running it cold than leting it sit at 90.
