156 Wiper Problem

Wipers stopped working yesterday ... were fine day before.

As I suspected, 20Amp fuse had blow. So changed it and that blew.

Should I be looking at motor or switch? Anyone had to change there motor? Where is it, under the black wiper covers in front of the screen??

I had this happen once on a different car, and it turned out that the earth wire had broken. And yes, I think the motor is under that plastic cover.

I decided to have a look at the wiper motor ... so after a quick stop-off at Halford for some star drive sockets, the airvent were soon removed (you probably only need to remove the drivers side).

The motor was neatly clad in it's own rain-cover! Elasticated, so off that came. Three allen bolts and the whole unit including mechanics on the garage floor. Taking care to turn it the right way, I moved the arm mechanisms but they were stiff. But it turned, so after a couple of full revolutions, I put the lot back and after a new fuse, turned on the ignition. The motor sprang into life as it wasn't parked correctly. So we are back in business.

While under the covers (so to speak) I cleaned out the air intake filter (passenger side) and remove a ton of dead leaves!!!

The cost of a new motor? 105 from Alfa, and aboy 50 second-hand.

I'm still expecting to have to change it, but at least I've got time now.

PS I also invested in some Rain-X ... just for backup!

cheers, Gary
