Knocking noise from rear and uneven tyre wear?
For about the last 6 months there has been a slight knocking noise from the rear of my 156. It isn't speed related, sounds the same at 30 as it does at 70 - although you can only hear it at 30 if the car is driven on a new piece of road which doesn't generate much road noise.
The car was in an Alfa specialist at the beginning of the year for the front ARB and timing belt. I also asked them to check the rear as there was a knocking noise. In their inspection all they noted was there was uneven tyre wear at the back.
It has now just had it's MOT done at an Alfa dealer which it passed. The dealer also did an inspection on it and noted the rear tyres were wearing unevenly (inner edge wearing more) and nothing else. They said I needed a 4 wheel alignment to sort the problem.
I have searched and found that it might be the hub bush - but would this not have been noticed at the MOT or the 2 inspections?
Can anyone tell me if it is just the tyres and alignment that are causing the noise or is it more likley to be a worn bush?
Sorry for the long post!
