Chipping - stupid question

Are these less than a tenner jobs you see all the time on ebay (like the one below) dangerous ?
and what makes the corresponding remaps (like the Autodelta ones) worth £285 ?

The 10 quid ones are just a resistor which fools the ECU into running the engine richer.
You will get much more pleasure spending it on a copy of Evo and a Marks & Spencer prawn sandwich.

A proper remap re-programmes your ECU with new parameters at all points along the rev range.

John, I suggest you to read my report - Throttleman's Remap Report wink

And if you decide to do it, visit the Alfaowner shop... it's easy.

Very informative Throttleman, thanks - but there's one unanswered question on that thread (unless I missed it) i.e. does it change the emmissions ?(enough to knacker the catalytic converter)

I had my 1st MOT and it just made it through the emissions which could be related to the remap (Done by Monza Sport) but I don't know

Hello All
Been away with the family. On this subject....DO NOT USE CRAPPY "CHIPS"!!!!. The main damage will come from advancing the timing. This is ok in non-load situations but at high revs and fast get-aways even 3 or 4 degrees on a modern engine would be enough to create pitting and possibly holeing (?) of pistons. A proper re-map will adjust the advancement against spark plug voltage requirement, air temp and other factors. The cheapo versions just advance the timing accross the board.
