and she's grown a clutch....
Only joking. My baby is in to get the Air con sorted, so I have a 1.6 Manual at the moment, more on that later.
They have checked out the air con system by stripping down the front end and have said it needs some parts which were faulty, so it's covered under warranty. Huraaah! They said they want to keep her for antoher day as they need to wait for the parts so that will be 3 days without my Sele
As for the 1.6, now I'm used the the 147 having owned mine for a Month I feel the drive back from the dealers gave me a real chance to compare the 1.6 and the 2.0 Selespeed, far better than on my test drive some time ago.
Power: Still quite shifty but lacks that little bit extra at the top end as you'd expect.
Sound: 1.6 sounds a little rough (growl) compared to the higher pitched 'rorty' (snarl) sound of the 2.0.
Gearbox and clutch: Very disapointed in both. The throw on the gearbox is as bad as I remembered it. For a sporty car like this there should be much less travel. The clutch travel seem too long as well, particulalrly when trying to get into 1st and 2nd. Although as a courtesy car she will have been thraped so this and the vague gear change may have this to blame. I must say it was good to try out a manual again, you really do miss that little bit of extra control you can get with a manual clutch. But because the gear changes were clunky it never once felt as smooth as the Selespeed and I really was trying.
Suspension + Comfort: No doubt the 16" wheels are more comfortable and not so skittish if you go over a bump while turning, though I didn't really push her on corners to test the grip.
All in all, still great fun and value I would say but I couldnt go back with the gearbox.
