From my ownership experience, the 166 is extremely comfortable and reliable. Exterior is elegant (some would argue) and the interior is very stylish. Plus it was available with the 3.0 V6, and you get lots of room and a cavernous boot.
And it's not as common as the smaller Alfas. Where I live the 3.0 166 is 40% more expensive than the 2.5 156. You pay more, you get more. The only downside I can think of is that it's a sporty saloon, not a sports car (probably not as nimble as the 147 & 156).
