Re: selespeed problem - gear engaging
I did not need alfa Diag and it was fine afterwards.
It is not a skilled job at all, the bumper does not require the car to be jacked up, but it does need some Torx drivers to get off, cheap enough from Halfords. Then take off the headlamp, passenger side, 3x10mm bolts, take off the air intake, one big jubilee clip and a couple of bolts and you can see your prey. Suck out the Sele fluid, (a syringe from a kids Calpol bottle works fine) undo the 19mm nut holding one of the hoses on, take off the other 13mm (you may need a special ring spanner with a cut out but a regular open ended did mine OK) Undo the two bolts holding the frame to the body, then the three bolts holding the pump to the frame and undo the electric connector. Remove, celebrate with a cup of tea, fitting the new one is the reverse, top up with fresh Sele oil, test by flicking through the gears to purge any air out, top up and celebrate with a beer.
I did have a Alfa 147 repair CD of ebay, it's only a fiver, but well worth it, for a job like this it is straight forward and you would feel pretty confident tackling it.
